सबसे बड़ी गलती — “band 9 वाले शब्दों” की लिस्ट रटना है। एग्ज़ामिनर शब्दों की दुर्लभता नहीं, बल्कि सटीकता और नेचुरलनेस को जज करता है: क्या शब्द का मतलब कॉन्टेक्स्ट में सही है, क्या वह आस-पास के शब्दों के साथ सही collocation बनाता है, और क्या वह इस स्टाइल में उपयुक्त है।
शब्द नहीं, collocations सीखें
शब्द impact तो सभी जानते हैं। band दिलाते हैं collocations:

- to minimise the impact of
- the long-term impact

Writing Task 1 के लिए Vocabulary
- ट्रेंड्स: rise, climb, surge, decline, dip, level off, fluctuate, peak.
- डिग्री: slightly, moderately, considerably, dramatically.
- हिस्से / अनुपात: just under a quarter, well over half, roughly a third.
- तुलना: twice as high as, overtook, the second largest.

Speaking के लिए Vocabulary
बातचीत की नेचुरल भाषा, phrasal verbs के साथ:
- I'm really into..., it's not really my thing, I can take it or leave it
- every now and then, once in a while, I tend to...
- it comes down to..., that's partly why..., to be honest...
Speaking में किताबी vocabulary अननेचुरल लगती है: I possess a considerable interest in culinary activities से बेहतर है I'm really into cooking.
Paraphrase — सबसे ज़रूरी स्किल
Listening और Reading में जवाब synonyms के पीछे छिपे होते हैं, और Writing व Speaking में paraphrase ही Lexical Resource का band बढ़ाता है। paraphrases की अपनी डायरी बनाएं: increase → rise, growth, go up; problem → issue, drawback, challenge; important → essential, crucial, of great significance.
कैसे पढ़ें ताकि शब्द एक्टिवली याद रहें
- कॉन्टेक्स्ट से शब्द लें: उन Reading टेक्स्ट और Listening रिकॉर्डिंग से जो आप एनालाइज़ कर रहे हैं।
- पूरा collocation उदाहरण के साथ नोट करें।
- शब्द को खुद इस्तेमाल करें — तीन वाक्यों में, बोलकर और लिखकर।
- इंटरवल पर दोहराएं: एक दिन बाद, तीन दिन बाद, एक हफ्ते बाद।
- निबंध में इस्तेमाल करने से पहले collocation डिक्शनरी में जाँच लें कि combination सही है या नहीं।
भारतीय स्टूडेंट्स की आम गलतियाँ
- false friends: actual का मतलब “वास्तविक” है, “आजकल का” नहीं; sympathetic का मतलब “सहानुभूतिपूर्ण” है; prospects और perspectives में कन्फ्यूज़न;
- शाब्दिक अनुवाद: make a photo, in the Internet, discuss about;
- informations, advices, researches — ये शब्द uncountable हैं।

IELTS 7 के लिए कितने शब्द आने चाहिए?
कोई फिक्स संख्या नहीं है। शब्दों की गिनती से ज़्यादा ज़रूरी है कि आप शब्दों को collocations में सटीकता से इस्तेमाल कर पाएं और paraphrase कर सकें।
क्या 'रेयर' या मुश्किल शब्दों से band बढ़ता है?
नहीं, अगर उनका इस्तेमाल सटीक नहीं है। गलत जगह पर इस्तेमाल की गई 'एडवांस' vocabulary से band कम हो जाता है।
